Connecting Gigabit Communities: Springfield, MO (SpringNet) $120 Million Fiber Project

Track: Business

Session Number: 1074
Date: Mon, Dec 14th, 2020
Time: 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM

Description:

City Utilities of Springfield, Missouri announced in August 2019 their investment of $120 million to connect approximately 113,000 households to advance the utilities information requirements and to then facilitate high-speed broadband services through the selection and lease of excess fiber to qualified Internet Service Providers. This project is laying the foundation for residents and businesses to truly benefit from a Gigabit city.

There are many nuances when delivering a project of this size and scale that can often determine a programs’ success or failure; technology, design, and the underlying processes all play a role; however when forward thinking collaborates across planning, design, engineering and construction, the potential for success is significantly advanced.

Join this panel discussion which brings together leaders from City Utilities (CU), The Broadband Group (TBG) who were awarded Business Planning, Design, Engineering and Construction Management for the project, and Biarri Networks - who assists CU and TBG in delivering an innovative engineering, design digital construction process to deliver a world-class network.

This panel will discuss:
●The objectives of CU and why TBG was engaged
●The Utility Lease Model and how utilities such as CU can deploy Gigabit fiber networks citywide without raising rates
●The key drivers influencing the manner in which this network is to be engineered, constructed and placed into service.
●The methodologies employed by Biarri Networks in assisting TBG and CU to achieve their network investment goals.

Join us to not only hear specifics as this initiative is launched, but to also ask the panel questions and understand how such an approach can benefit your own Gigabit Community goals."
