Chris Calhoun joined Newport Utilities as their Broadband and Technology Manager in March 2019. He leads all efforts of their information technology and broadband business operations, including construction. He hails from North Palm Beach, FL and graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Sciences. Chris went on to serve a total of 30 years in the Coast Guard retiring in 2013 as a Captain. He also earned a Masters of Arts degree in Education specializing in Human Performance Technology from San Diego State University in 2001. Upon retiring from the Coast Guard, Chris received his start in fiber optics acting as a project manager for MasTec installing fiber optics in the last mile for Verizon. He later became their Director of Last Mile working on the Google Fiber projects in Provo and Salt Lake City, UT; Kansas City, KS; Austin, TX and Atlanta GA. Chris and his wife Cindy live in Dandridge, TN and have three grown children, Coleman, Cameron and Corrinne.
