Track: Engineering

Session Number: 132
Date: Mon, Jun 3rd, 2019
Time: 11:15 AM - 12:00 PM
Room: Sarasota

Description:

One of the most promising wireless technologies for fixed operators is WiGig (60Ghz 802.11), which can drive gigabit speeds to end users. Since it uses unlicensed spectrum, WiGig is available to any operator and as a mature technology, it offers a robust, low cost alternative to other FTTx technologies. Overcoming fiber obstacles with WiGig preserves the critical role of fiber networks in our broadband future while embracing wireless technologies to achieve full broadband coverage for communities.
Session Type: Breakout Session

Learning Objective #1: Understand the capabilities of IEE 802.11ad and 802.11ay technology for supporting reliable and secure Gigabit connections to homes and businesses
Learning Objective #2: Understand the cost advantages of WiGig when compared to alternative technologies for connecting homes in areas where fiber costs are particularly high.
Intended Audience Level: Intermediate
