EPB – Katie Espeseth - National Bio

In 1935, the City of Chattanooga established EPB as a nonprofit agency to provide electric power to the greater area of Chattanooga, TN. Today, EPB serves more than 169,000 homes and businesses in a 600-square-mile area that includes greater Chattanooga, portions of surrounding Tennessee counties and areas of North Georgia.

Using a 100% fiber optic network as its backbone, EPB has completed a “Smart Grid,” a next-generation electric system that includes communication capabilities designed to reduce the impact of power outages, improve response time and allow customers greater control of their electric power usage.

Today, the fiber optic network constructed for the purpose of powering the most automated smart grid in the country, is also serving to expand EPB’s communications service offerings to include residential customers throughout the service area.  Currently offering Internet speed up to 10 gigabits-per-second, the communications services offered by EPB Fiber Optics also include IPTV services and phone.  This capability has attracted worldwide attention and has become a platform for innovation among established businesses and start-up ventures.

EPB’s Vice President of New Products, Katie Espeseth, joined EPB in November of 2004, bringing her with over 30 years of marketing and telecommunications experience with a national telecommunications carrier.   Katie guides EPB’s efforts to enhance existing products and develop new products that take advantage of the network’s strength.
