Super-PON: Simplify Access Infrastructure

Consolidation of local and regional offices brings new requirements to the subscriber access infrastructure, to support longer distances and more customers on the optical distribution network (ODN). Building upon the operational experience of current passive optical network (PON) technologies, Super-PON is an evolved access solution aimed at enhancing the spatial scalability of PONs by extending the reach and increasing the number of subscribers per fiber strand through wavelength division multiplexing. At its July 2018 plenary, IEEE 802.3 approved the formation of a study group to begin the standardization work of Super-PON. This talk will introduce the Super-PON technology and will summarize the on-going industry efforts to make it widely available.
