Innovative Ways to Leverage Your Fiber Asset

Track: Business

Session Number: 133
Date: Mon, Jun 3rd, 2019
Time: 11:15 AM - 12:00 PM

Description:

There are many EPB partnerships that have evolved over the years stemming from the use of our fiber optic infrastructure. These partnerships have allowed us to test cutting-edge technologies, generate actionable data, inform new business models, further validating the value of faster, more reliable broadband access/transport. EPB has worked with the following government agencies and companies: DOE National Labs including - ORNL (Oak Ridge National Laboratory), ANL(Argonne National Laboratory), LBNL (Lawrence Berkley Laboratory), LLNL (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory), NETL (National Energy Technology Laboratory), LANL (Los Alamos National Laboratory), NREL (National Renewable Energy Lab), SNL (Sandia National Laboratories), PNNL (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory), SRNL (Savannah River National Lab), TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority), NSF (National Science Foundation) USIgnite, EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute), ARPA-E, CURENT Research Lab at UTK (University of TN Knoxville), Nokia, Alcatel Lucent, and many more. The range of topics EPB has explored include: cybersecurity, IoT devices, smart grid data analysis, small cells, video streaming, microgrids, solar, electric storage, mobile and stationary sensors, and countless others. EPB deployed the fiber optic infrastructure to deliver an automated, interactive and self-healing electric distribution grid, which also could be leveraged to provide the backbone for communication services (video, voice, and data). Additionally, EPB hosts next generation research in a living test bed in order to help solve tomorrow’s community challenges.
