Managing Your Fiber Broadband Installation by Managing Your Sub-Contractors and Your Test Data

Track: Fiber Broadband Starter Kit

Session Number: 126
Date: Sun, Jun 2nd, 2019
Time: 3:45 PM - 4:30 PM

Description:

This session draws from real world experiences in deploying FTTx and identifies the potential pitfalls found in too many contracts.  Fiber Standards documents and fiber optic training classes teach us a lot of technology and can provide valuable knowledge and skills.  These do not always teach us how to handle sub-contractors who build and/or provision our fiber networks.  Do you understand which specifications and test requirements should be included in sub-contracts?  Do you understand which specs might actually compromise your network quality and how to best test for that?  What if you understood which fiber tests are possibly redundant or even totally unnecessary and which are most telling, based on your network and performance needs? This presentation should be part of Operators, Planners, and OSP managers. Fiber Broadband Starter Kit.  This is essential information presented primarily at a basic to intermediate level.
Session Type: Breakout Session

Learning Objective #1: Learn which key fiber testing requirements should be included in Sub Contractor solicitations and contracts. Learn which key go/no go , Pass/Fail parameters should be included in contract language.
Learning Objective #2: Understand the turn-up tests required at provisioning and test tools requirements. Learn which tests are possibly redundant or not required. Learn why requiring certain fiber testing can actually DECREASE you network quality.
Intended Audience Level: Essentials
